| "Forbes Parrot
Finch (Tricolor)"
Delightful busy little birds dressed in irridescent blues,
greens and red.
Description: Face, throat and breast a lovely deep cobalt blue, back is bright green, rump and tail red.
Females colored the same but in subdued tones. Usually of slender build and about 5" in length.
Country of Origin: Timor & Tenimber Islands.
Diet: Greens such as parsley and kale, apples, pears, sprouted seeds, egg food, finch millets, canary
grass seed and oats. Adore spray millet second only to small meal worms.
Housing: Need to fly to keep from becoming obese so the wider the cage the better.
Peaceful and interesting additions to a mixed aviary of similar size finch.
Breeding: Moderately difficult to breed. Good feeders if plenty of small meal worms are provided as
well as good quality egg food. Prefer a 5x5 nest box with 1-1 1/4 inch hole. May use large wicker basket.
Male will build an enclosed cozy nest inside the box with a good supply of coco fibre and sisal.
Incubation is 14 days with both birds sharing the duties.
Recommendation: Once they begin to breed, they are very doting parents and excellent feeders of their
young with many mini meal worms consumed especially during the first 2-3 weeks after which
consumption of worms tends to slow a bit. Also lovely addition to a mixed aviary.
